Quality Management

Quality Is Not
A Department.

At Wayne Rubber, quality is the operating principle behind every compound we source, every part we mold, and every shipment we send. Our ISO 9001 certified Quality Management System provides the documented framework that makes that commitment verifiable, not just stated.

What Certification Means

ISO 9001: A Verified Standard

ISO 9001 is the internationally recognized standard for Quality Management Systems, published by the International Organization for Standardization and adopted by over one million organizations in 170 countries. Certification is not self-issued. It requires audit and registration by an independent accredited certification body, which verifies that the organization’s quality system meets the standard’s requirements and conducts periodic surveillance audits to confirm continued compliance.

For OEM customers and procurement teams, ISO 9001 certification answers a fundamental supplier qualification question: does this manufacturer have a documented, audited, and continuously maintained quality system, or are they operating on informal practice alone? The answer at Wayne Rubber is the former, with a certificate that can be verified and documentation that can be reviewed.

ISO 9001 certification covers the full operational scope of Wayne Rubber’s manufacturing activities: incoming material control, production process management, product inspection, nonconforming product handling, corrective action, management review, internal audit, and customer communication. Every element of the standard that touches product quality is documented, implemented, and subject to ongoing internal and external audit.

The certification does not mean that Wayne Rubber never makes mistakes. It means that when a problem occurs, there is a documented process for identifying it, containing it, determining root cause, correcting it, and verifying that the correction was effective. That closed-loop discipline is what ISO 9001 actually instills, and what makes a certified supplier reliably different from an uncertified one over a long supply chain relationship.

How the System Works

Wayne Rubber’s Quality Management System

Wayne Rubber’s QMS governs quality across four integrated stages of the manufacturing cycle. Each stage has defined inputs, documented procedures, measurable outputs, and feedback loops that connect back to continuous improvement.

Stage 01
Incoming Material Control

Every incoming raw material and compound lot is verified against its certificate of conformance before release to production. Supplier performance is tracked. Non-conforming material is quarantined and dispositioned before it can enter the production stream.

Stage 02
In-Process Control

Process parameters (press temperature, cure time, mold condition, preform weight) are monitored and recorded during production. First article inspection is performed on every new job and after any tooling or process change. In-process checks verify that production is running within specified limits before the full lot is completed.

Stage 03
Final Inspection and Test

Finished parts are inspected dimensionally and physically before shipment. Physical property testing per applicable ASTM standards is performed at defined frequencies. Non-conforming product is identified, segregated, and dispositioned through a controlled review process before any disposition decision is made.

Stage 04
Corrective Action and Improvement

Customer complaints, internal non-conformances, audit findings, and process escapes all feed a documented corrective action system. Root cause analysis is required before corrective actions are approved. Effectiveness is verified before the action is closed. Trends are reviewed at management review for systemic improvement opportunities.

“The standard is only as strong as the culture behind it. ISO 9001 gives our customers confidence that quality at Wayne Rubber is systematic, documented, and continuously reviewed, not dependent on any single person’s diligence.”

What Customers Receive

What to Expect From Wayne Rubber as a Quality Supplier

ISO 9001 certification establishes the minimum expectation. Below is what that means in practice for every customer relationship at Wayne Rubber.

  • Certificate of Conformance on Every Shipment

Every production lot ships with a Certificate of Conformance (C of C) stating that the parts conform to the applicable drawing and specification, identifying the lot number, part number, revision, compound designation, and quantity. The C of C is signed by an authorized quality representative and retained as a permanent quality record. For regulated applications including aerospace, defense, medical, and food processing, additional documentation including material certificates and physical property test reports can be provided with every shipment.

  • Full Material Traceability

Wayne Rubber maintains traceability from the raw material supplier lot through the finished part shipment lot. If a material non-conformance is identified at any point in the chain, we can identify every production lot affected and initiate a containment response. For programs requiring lot-specific material certificates referencing the compound supplier, lot number, and test results, those certificates are retained and available on request. Traceability is not optional at Wayne Rubber. It is a baseline operating requirement for all customers.

  • First Article Inspection for Every New Job

First article inspection (FAI) is performed on the first production lot of every new part number, and again after any change to compound, tooling, or process that could affect the part’s conformance. The FAI includes dimensional inspection against the drawing and physical property testing against the compound specification. Production does not release to shipment until FAI is reviewed and approved. For customers who require customer-witnessed FAI or customer-specific FAI documentation formats, Wayne Rubber accommodates those requirements at the program outset.

  • Physical Property Testing to ASTM Standards

Rubber compound physical properties, including Shore A hardness per ASTM D2240, tensile strength and elongation per ASTM D412, compression set per ASTM D395 Method B, and other properties as specified, are tested at defined frequencies and documented in lot test reports. For programs that require testing on every lot, periodic lot sampling with skip-lot procedures, or customer-witnessed testing, the testing frequency and sampling plan is agreed at quoting and documented in the quality plan. Test reports reference the actual lot tested, not a historical file.

  • Controlled Change Management

Changes to compound, tooling, process parameters, or suppliers that could affect part conformance are managed through a documented change control process. Customers are notified before implementation of any change that could affect form, fit, or function. No silent substitutions. If a compound lot change or tooling repair occurs, it is documented, reviewed, and communicated, not absorbed invisibly into production. This is particularly critical for regulated industries where supplier changes require advance customer notification under their own quality plans.

  • Corrective Action With Root Cause

When a non-conformance occurs, whether identified internally, by a customer complaint, or through a field return, Wayne Rubber’s corrective action process requires documented containment, root cause analysis, corrective action implementation, and effectiveness verification before the action is closed. Customers receive 8D or equivalent corrective action documentation on request. The goal is not to close corrective actions quickly. The goal is to close them permanently. Repeat occurrences of the same non-conformance type indicate a corrective action failure, and our quality system treats them as such.

  • Customer Audit Support

ISO 9001 certification does not eliminate the customer’s right to audit. Wayne Rubber welcomes customer quality audits and second-party supplier assessments as part of the supplier qualification and ongoing relationship process. Our documented QMS provides the quality manual, procedures, and records needed for a productive audit. For customers whose internal supplier qualification process requires Wayne Rubber to complete a supplier questionnaire, provide quality system documentation, or submit to a facility audit prior to first order, contact our quality team to initiate that process.
